NYC FLY OVER

Season's Greetings... (shared thoughts on Christmas Day)

Greetings of the season and the best wishes of the New Year. Here is my blessing to you in hopes that it will inspire what I think is the true meaning of Christmas.
 CHRISTMAS BLESSINGS

When you’re at your home and your heart is warm there simply is no better time than the holiday season. It is my prayer that this Christmas will be the happiest of time for you and the ones you love. I also hope that the happiness you feel will inspire you and your family to open its heart just a little wider and create at least one miracle of your own. Somewhere close to you, I know there is someone that needs an angel this holiday season. Look around… you will see them. You could be that angel. You don’t have to do something big, just give someone a reason to smile, a reason to feel valued. I guarantee you it will make your holiday season a warmer and happier time.

With blessings of the season, I wish you a Happy holidays

1 Corinthians 13:11  When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

In memory of my mother...

I miss my mother most of all during the holiday season. Christmas was always her favorite time of years. She was into her crafts making ornaments and holiday trinkets sharing her holiday love with friends and family.  I miss you mom.

I remember when I was in 6th grade. The middle school was where the High School is located now. We would all sit in the forum during lunch. I would be bully at the time by someone 2 grades older to me. Looking at this video I am reminded of those times and I reflect what I would do if I saw that situation today.  I never wish anyone to feel lesser than anyone else. Being equal whether you are big or small, man or woman, gay or straight is what I try to shine in my own life.

Who is the snowflake generation?

Generation Snowflake, or Snowflake Generation, is a neologistic term used to characterize the young adults of the 2010s as being more prone to taking offense and less resilient than previous generations, or as being too emotionally vulnerable to cope with views that challenge their own.

My review of Bohemian Rhapsody

The movie is AMAZING. As a HUGE Queen fan, I have been waiting 10 years for this movie and it was everything I wanted it to be. There were some timeline liberties in the story but they were minor All 4 guys that played the band members were spot on as far as character and mannerisms. I would love to see Rami get an Oscar nod to this performance. If you know anything about the band Queen you will enjoy this movie. It ends with the Live Aid show and it made me sing along and tear up remembering how great Freddie and Queen was to me when I was a teen in the 80's. SEE THIS MOVIE in the theater for its arena sound and its sheer ability to ROCK YOUR ASS OFF!

So tonight I put on the movie Groove while I was doing some desk work. I ended up watching some memorable parts of the movie that made me think of a great moment of my life. One of those life moments started in the early nineties when I was introduced to club music and the rave culture. I was introduced to some of the greatest people that graced this earth. They gave me some of the best music and memorable moments of my lifetime. To all that graced the "ones and two's" and to all that danced along with me to the music, I love you all and miss you dearly. And for all those great times in the past that I fondly remember... thank you.

If there was a time in my life that I could visit again it would be the OKRAVES days and all the friends I met along the way.
Here's to the 1990's through the early 2000's, and to the music that continues to make us groove.

A CHANCE ENCOUNTER

Something happened to me that I think about sometimes that makes me miss New York City. I remember a couple years ago I when I went to New York for your pride I met this one guy that did not want to go to pride but wanted to hang out with somebody like him. So I volunteered to leave pride shortly after the parade and take a walk in Central Park with him. As I got to know him through our talks I found out that he was a huge Coldplay fan and he did a lot of karaoke. Well, we found a place in Central Park to sit out on the grass and I pulled out my phone to play some YouTube videos that included karaoke lyrics. We started singing Coldplay and some other songs, also some old Billy Joel songs that we both knew. We really start to enjoy making other peoples turn with a smile and possibly sing-along. We must have walked for three hours singing songs and turning heads. The night ended with a hug and the offer keep in touch. Well, suffice to say I never heard from him again (probably because he knew that I was from out of town) But as for my other friends that have kept in touch with me (and of course my family up there). I can’t wait to share and build more memories with you. I love you all.

You are America

Whether it was Ellis Island, Brownsville TEXAS, Niagara Falls or San Francisco... we or our ancestors came from somewhere other than here (except if you are native Americans of course) we are all immigrants of this land. I can’t speak for my ancestors 300 years ago but I can speak for the man I am today and the hope that lady liberty offers everyone who seeks a better life in this country. You are loved and I welcome you America.

GO VOTE

If you do not vote because you are convinced that your vote does not matter, but you buy lottery tickets thinking you might beat the 1 in 258,890,850 chance that you might win... you might be a hypocrite. GO VOTE!

My commitment to you. Editorial Ethics and the discipline of verification.

The news stories that are pouring out pinch at the hearts and can whack you unawares. People passing away, political scandal or the fact that some organization has done wrong. It is in these stories that journalist put together, albeit sometimes with difficulty, that we celebrate the lives of those who have gone ahead as well as fan the hopes of those left behind; whether as families now having to suffer the difficulties or friends who have landed on hard times.

While there may be the penchant to share rumors and gossip and conspiracy theories over the social media, that is where I draw the line to define what a journalists would do if I was in that kind of work.

I am not here to fan unfounded speculations. I may sometimes be slower than the rest in posting developments on my social media accounts. But that is what differentiates journalism from social media: the discipline of verification.

By sticking to that important element of journalism, the discipline of verification, I serve my friends and community to the best of my ability without taking them on a wild ride of uncertainties and unfounded theories.

It is through the braggadocio of many social media users, through the years that have passed, which have blurred the lines between journalism, showbiz, and rumor-mongering. It is through the race for being highest on their soapbox or first on the story that brought about a brand of social media journalism that is more entertainment and trivia than stories that matter. Through this braggadocio and race to be first, what is drummed up is that journalists should be objective and should not side with anyone.

It is the method that is objective, the way the information is verified and checked from different sources, the way the embellishment provided by the conspiracy theorists and ordinary kibitzer with too much opinion are sifted out. But in the end, I remain a human and is called upon by this human nature to side with what is just, true, and what contributes to the propagation of universal values which draws out the human in us and our community, and not the animal that is unleashed when the truth is stretched to incredible levels.

So as I continue to read through peoples posts and and tolerate their rush to be the first on the story without facts, I reinforce my commitment to deliver facts by offering editorial discipline by getting facts first.
